Starting Lineup

Amie · Miley · Leo · Vinnie · Mikey · Carter · Billy · Sam · Keyver · Logan · Joey

Plymouth focus on a high press and direct vertical play using a 4-4-2. This lineup aims to win the ball high up the pitch and move it quickly to the attackers to catch the opposition out of position. The team wants to keep the game moving at a high tempo to unsettle the opponent.

Amie stays between the posts to organize the back line. The defensive unit works as a flat back four with Mikey on the right and Miley on the left. Vinnie acts as a ball playing defender on the right side of the center while Leo provides cover to the left. Mikey and Miley are tasked to push up and support the play, while Vinnie and Leo hold the line and protect the central zone.

The midfield operates in two banks of four to keep the team compact. Sam and Keyver form a central pairing where Sam looks to drive forward with the ball and Keyver works to shield the defense. On the flanks, Billy and Logan provide width to stretch the opposition. Billy and Logan are expected to track back to help the defense and then spread wide to offer an outlet when the team wins possession.

Plymouth uses a front two to attack the opposition back line. Joey plays as a pressing centre-forward to force errors, while Carter works as a second striker to find space between the lines. The team looks to hit in behind on the transition using the speed of the forwards. Joey and Carter combine to hold up the ball and lay it off to the oncoming midfielders or runners from deep.

This formation provides great compactness when defending in a mid-block. The ability to press in coordinated waves allows Plymouth to win the ball in dangerous areas. By using the wide players, the team can also create wide overloads to deliver crosses into the box.

This 4-4-2 formation relies on high energy and quick transitions to overwhelm the opponent. It is best suited for games against teams that play a high line and struggle to deal with direct pressure.
