Starting Lineup
MIKEY (Derby) · ZAIDO (Man City) · AZHAR (Man City) · SAVVY (Man City) · TROY (Man City) · YAAZO (Man City) · FUEGO (Man City) · JAMA (c) (Man City) · ADAM (Man City) · PROD (Man City) · DERCIO (Man City)A heavy focus on defensive solidity and quick vertical transitions defines this lineup, which operates in a 5-3-2 formation. The team aims to absorb pressure before hitting teams on the break to exploit space behind the opposition back line. This setup is designed to be difficult to break down while providing enough bodies to support the forwards when the ball is won back.
MIKEY acts as the last line of defense, staying alert to any long balls sent toward the strikers. The defensive unit relies on a back five with YAAZO acting as the central anchor to sweep up loose balls. DERCIO operates as the right centre back to provide cover, while ZAIDO holds the left side of the central trio. On the flanks, AZHAR and SAVVY act as attacking wing backs, providing the necessary width to stretch the opposition. These wide players must balance their roles by tracking back to form a flat five when the team sits deep.
The midfield operates as a three-man midfield with a carrier to link the play. TROY and ADAM occupy the central spaces to control the tempo and win the second ball in the middle of the pitch. TROY often sits deeper to help shield the defense, while ADAM works to drive forward with the ball into the half-spaces. FUEGO plays as an attacking ten behind the two strikers, looking to operate in the pockets of space between the opposition midfield and defense. This midfield group works to recycle possession and quickly find the runners in the final third.
In the attacking phase, the team employs two forwards in a partnership to cause chaos. JAMA, who is the captain, leads the line and works to find the feet of the strikers or make runs in behind. PROD plays alongside JAMA to create combinations, either by holding up the ball or making sharp movements to pull defenders out of position. The width comes primarily from the wing backs, AZHAR and SAVVY, who push high to deliver crosses. This creates a setup where the two forwards can isolate defenders in one on one situations or link up with the overlapping runners.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when the wing backs join the attack. The team can also maintain extreme compactness when defending in a low block, making it very hard for opponents to find passing lanes. Another strength is the speed of transition, as the team can move from a defensive block to a vertical attack in just a few passes.
The 5-3-2 formation provides a robust platform for teams that want to defend deep and strike with pace. It is best suited for facing opponents that dominate possession but struggle to defend against quick runners in behind.
