Jihlava Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Slavata · Štrakl · Čermák · Štětka · Hošek · Lacko · Jambor · Labaran · Křivánek · Sambou · OmotoyeJihlava focuses on a high press and quick transitions through a 4-5-1. This formation is built to compress the space in the middle of the pitch and win the ball high up the pitch to catch the opposition out of position. The team works to deny the turn for opposing players and relies on heavy work rates from the five midfielders to suffocate the opponent.
Slavata stays between the posts to provide stability at the back. The defensive unit operates as a flat back four with Štětka and Čermák acting as the central pair. Štětka and Čermák focus on winning the header and clearing the lines when long balls come in. Hošek and Štrakl play as full backs, looking to support the wide midfielders while ensuring they do not get caught too far up the pitch. They must hold the line together to ensure the team does not get stretched.
The midfield operates as a dense block designed to win the second ball. Jambor and Lacko act as a double pivot to shield the defense and protect the back four. Křivánek, Sambou, and Labaran occupy the spaces ahead of the pivot to press in a mid-block. Křivánek and Sambou are tasked to squeeze the space and press the opposition midfielders aggressively. Labaran works to connect the defensive and attacking lines, often dropping deep to help recycle possession when the team plays short from the back.
Jihlava utilizes a lone striker in Omotoye to lead the line. Omotoye acts as a pressing centre-forward to force a long ball from the opposition defenders. The team builds play through the wide midfielders who try to find the feet of the striker or deliver early crosses. When the team wins the ball, the midfielders look to hit in behind on the transition to find Omotoye in space. The goal is to use the five midfielders to overload the center before switching play to the wings.
This formation offers significant compactness when defending and the ability to press high in coordinated waves. By using a five man midfield, Jihlava can create numerical superiority in the center to intercept passes. The setup also allows for speed of transition, as the midfielders can immediately drive forward to support the lone striker once the ball is won.
The 4-5-1 formation allows Jihlava to maintain a heavy defensive block while staying dangerous on the break. It is best suited for games against teams that want more possession, allowing the midfield to sit deep and strike quickly.
