Rubinho/Aranha · Edilson/Guga/Rodinei · G.Magalhaes/Fred · Caçapa/Marcão/Betao · Patric/Cortez · Cleber Santana · Douglas/Renan O · Savio/Lincoln · Raphinha/Marquinhos · Rodrigo Lima/Love · GuerreroAvaí aims to dominate the middle of the pitch through a heavy presence in the center, utilizing a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to control the ball and squeeze the space in the central areas, forcing opponents into wide positions where they can be trapped. The tactical identity relies on an aggressive central density to win the ball back quickly and push the opposition deep into their own half.
Rubinho acts as the last line of defense for Avaí, sweeping behind a very high line. The defensive unit relies on a back two consisting of G.Magalhaes and Fred, who must remain extremely disciplined to cover the wide spaces left behind the midfield. These two central defenders need to be prepared to intercept long balls and act as ball playing defenders to start attacks. Because of the lack of a traditional back four, the defensive unit functions by using the high midfield line to prevent direct passes toward the goal.
The midfield is the engine room of this formation, operating as a five man block that can shift heavily to one side. Edilson, Guga, and Rodinei operate as left side defensive midfielders to provide width and cover in that zone, while Patric and Cortez sit as a double pivot to shield the center. Cleber Santana acts as the primary link, moving between the lines to connect the defense to the attack. On the flanks, Savio and Douglas provide energy, with Lincoln and Renan O pushing higher to support the transition. This heavy midfield presence is designed to win the second ball and control the tempo.
The attacking unit utilizes three forwards to pin the opposition back. Guerrero acts as a lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and win headers to bring others into play. On the wings, Raphinha and Rodrigo Lima provide much needed width, cutting inside to create space for late runs. The forwards press from the front in pairs to force long balls, which the midfield can then intercept. The movement is designed to create quick combinations in tight spaces, using the wide players to stretch the defense before delivering crosses into the box.
One major advantage of this lineup is the massive numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch, making it very difficult for opponents to play through the center. The coordinated waves of players from the midfield allow the team to press high and recover possession quickly in the final third. Another strength is the ability to overload the flanks when the wide midfielders and wingers combine to isolate defenders in one on one situations.
This 2-5-3 formation is designed for a team that wants to suffocate the opposition in their own half through central dominance. It is best suited for matches against opponents who struggle to handle high pressure and lack the speed to exploit the space behind a high defensive line.
