Starting Lineup

BORGO · SELING · PIZZIO · AVALOS · ZAUPA · TISOCCO · PAVON · VILLORDO · FUCENECCO · MACIEL · AREVALO

A heavy emphasis on direct verticality and high attacking pressure defines this lineup, which operates in a 4-2-4 formation. The intention is to overwhelm the opposition with numbers in the final third and hit them quickly on the transition. This system is built to play a high risk, high reward game where the goal is to win the ball high up the pitch and exploit space behind the defenders.

BORGO stays between the posts to anchor the defense. The back line functions as a flat back four, with SELING acting as a wide defender on the right while ZAUPA covers the left flank. In the center, PIZZIO and AVALOS operate as the primary defensive pair, tasked with holding a high line to squeeze the space. They must be ready to step up to catch attackers offside or drop deep to cover runners if the press is bypassed. The defensive unit works together to maintain a compact block when the team is pushed back.

The midfield uses a double pivot to provide a layer of protection in front of the back four. PAVON and TISOCCO sit in the central area to shield the defense and recycle possession when the team builds out from the back. PAVON and TISOCCO are responsible for connecting the defensive line to the front four, often looking to win the second ball to spark a quick break. Their main job is to prevent the opposition from playing through the center and to pick up runners from deep.

The attacking structure is extremely aggressive, utilizing four players across the front line. MACIEL and VILLORDO act as wide wingers, with MACIEL playing on the left and VILLORDO on the right, both tasked with stretching the defense. FUCENECCO and AREVALO lead the line as a two-man partnership in the center. They function as a duo to press the opposition back line and fight for long balls. This formation is designed to create runs in behind and allow the wingers to cut inside and combine in tight spaces with the strikers.

One major strength of this 4-2-4 lineup is the ability to create wide overloads and numerical superiority in the attacking third. By having four dedicated forwards, the team can pin the last defender of the opposition and force them into mistakes. The speed of transition is another advantage, as the team can move from a defensive block to a full attacking wave in seconds. This makes it very difficult for opponents to recover their defensive positions once the ball is won.

This formation relies on high intensity and a relentless press to disrupt the opponent. It is best suited for games against teams that struggle to play out from the back or when chasing a goal against a low block.
