Orlando City looks to control the tempo through a compact mid-block in a 4-5-1. This formation is built to play a way that focuses on congestion in the middle of the pitch to deny space between the lines. The team aims to win the ball in central areas and look for quick transitions to catch the opposition out of position.

Araya sits between the posts to command his area. In front of him, a flat back four provides the base for the defense. Cáceres and Grillo act as the central duo, with Cáceres focusing on his aerial strength while Grillo covers the space behind him. D. Varas and Cáceres operate as full backs, where D. Varas needs to track back quickly to prevent wide overloads. The unit works to stay close together to deny passing lanes and force the opposition wide.

The midfield is a dense five man group designed to dominate the central zones. A double pivot consisting of M. Sandoval and J. Rodríguez sits just ahead of the defense to shield them and intercept play. Montecinos operates in the right half space to drive forward with the ball, while E. Espinoza provides balance on the left. J. Henríquez connects the defensive and attacking lines by moving between the lines to recycle possession. This midfield block can squeeze the space around the opposition playmaker to trigger a press.

Orlando City utilizes a lone striker in J. Larrivey to lead the line. He acts as a target man to hold up the ball and allow the midfield to move up the pitch. The midfielders in the half spaces must support him to create combinations in tight spaces. When attacking, the team looks to use the width provided by the full backs to stretch the defense. The forwards press the opposition back line to force a long ball, which the central defenders look to win the second ball.

One major strength for Orlando City is the numerical superiority in midfield that makes it very difficult for opponents to play through the center. The lineup also offers great compactness when defending deep, making it hard to find gaps. This allows the team to switch play quickly once they win possession to exploit wide areas.

This 4-5-1 setup provides a very solid defensive base that is hard to break down. It is best suited for matches against teams that dominate possession, allowing Orlando City to sit deep and hit on the break.
