Racing Club focuses on a heavy defensive presence and quick transitions, utilizing a 5-4-1 formation. The goal is to stay compact and wait for opportunities to strike on the break. This lineup is built to sit deep, deny space between the lines, and use the width of the pitch only when moving into the final third.

Lautaro Martinez acts as the last line of defense in goal. The defensive unit works as a back five where Coutinho sits in the center to command the line and organize the movement of others. De Paul and Sosa act as the wide centre-backs to cover the spaces left by the wing backs. Antony and Luiz Diaz occupy the wing back roles, tasked with providing width in attack but primarily dropping back to form a five man line when out of possession. The unit aims to keep a narrow block to force the opposition into wide areas.

The midfield works in a flat four to maintain a compact block. Gustavo Gomez and Balerdi form the central pairing, with Gomez often looking to shield the defence while Balerdi works to win the second ball. Rojas and Lozano operate on the flanks to provide width and track back to help the wing backs. This four man unit connects the defensive block to the lone striker, ensuring that the space between the lines is squeezed. They aim to recycle possession quickly once the ball is won back in the middle.

In the attacking phase, Racing Club relies on a lone striker, Cambeses, to lead the line. He must hold up the ball and wait for support to arrive from the midfield or the wing backs. Antony and Luiz Diaz push up to provide the width, often looking to deliver crosses or play short passes to Cambeses. The team attacks in transition, looking to hit in behind the opposition defence as soon as a turnover occurs. The movement is designed to create runs in behind and allow the wingers to arrive late into the box.

This formation offers significant compactness when defending, making it very hard for opponents to play through the middle. Racing Club can also find success through wide overloads when Antony and Luiz Diaz push high simultaneously. The setup allows the team to shift between a low block and a mid-block easily, depending on where the ball is located. By keeping the lines close together, they minimize the danger of through balls.

Racing Club uses this 5-4-1 to absorb pressure and strike with speed. This setup is best suited for matches against dominant teams that hold a lot of possession.
