Starting Lineup

Morgan · Martin · Whately · McCartney · Whitmarsh · Shearman · Halpin · Mulholland · Markey · O'Kane · Lubimovs

A high press and heavy emphasis on winning the ball back high up the pitch defines this lineup in a 4-5-1. This team focuses on squeezing the space in the opposition half to force turnovers and launch quick attacks. The formation is built to dominate the middle of the park and overwhelm opponents through a crowded midfield.

Morgan sits between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back four uses a flat line to maintain compactness, with McCartney acting as a traditional full back on the right. Whitmarsh plays as the left back, providing width when the team pushes up. In the center, Whately and Martin work as a pair to defend zonally, with Martin acting as a ball playing defender to start play out from the back. They hold the line to keep the team compact when the opponent tries to play through the lines.

The midfield is a dense five man block designed to control the center. Shearman acts as a single pivot to shield the defense and intercept passes. Next to him, Mulholland and Markey occupy the central roles, with Markey looking to drive forward with the ball to create an extra man. Halpin operates on the left side of the midfield bank to connect the defensive and attacking lines. O'Kane plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find pockets of space and arrive late into the box to score.

In the final third, Lubimovs operates as a lone striker. He acts as a pressing centre-forward to disrupt the opposition build up and pin the last defender. While Lubimovs works to hold up the ball, the midfielders like O'Kane and Halpin push forward to support him. The team looks to attack in combinations, using the wide players to stretch the defence and creating chances through quick passing in tight spaces.

This formation offers the advantage of overwhelming numerical superiority in the midfield. By packing the center, the team can win the second ball and quickly transition from defense to attack. The heavy presence of five players in the middle makes it very difficult for opponents to play through the center, often forcing them to play long balls that the defensive unit can easily clear the lines.

The 4-5-1 lineup relies on intense pressure and a congested midfield to dictate the tempo. It is best suited for matches against teams that prefer to build play through the center and struggle against a high press.
