Starting Lineup

Adamsen · Wurmbrand · Tilio · Radulovic · J. Auer · Seidl · Oswald · Bolla · Raux Yao · Schöller · Hedl

SK Rapid focuses on high intensity and verticality using a 2-5-3. This lineup seeks to overwhelm the opposition through numbers in the middle of the pitch and aggressive pressure from the front. The goal is to win the ball high up the pitch and hit in behind on the transition to exploit any space left behind a high defensive line.

Hedl stays between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line consists of a very narrow duo with Schöller and Raux Yao acting as the two central defenders. Because there are only two at the back, Schöller and Raux Yao must be ready to step up to set the offside trap or cover wide areas if the midfield is bypassed. They act as the final barrier, often forced to defend in much larger spaces than a traditional back four, meaning they must be quick to react to long balls.

The midfield is where SK Rapid exerts its main control, utilizing a five man block. J. Auer plays as a deep lying playmaker pairing partner with Bolla to shield the defense. J. Auer works to recycle possession while Bolla focuses on winning the second ball. Moving further up, Oswald and Seidl act as inverted eights who occupy the half spaces to link the play. They are tasked to carry the ball forward and arrive late into the box to support the attack. Tilio operates as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find pockets of space to play through the lines and serve the front three.

The attacking front three creates constant pressure on the opposition back line. Wurmbrand and Radulovic act as wide wingers who stretch the defense, with Wurmbrand looking to cut inside and Radulovic to hit the byline and deliver early crosses. Adamsen leads the line as a pressing centre forward, tasked to pin the last defender and fight for long balls. This front three works to press from the front, forcing the opposition to play long and allowing the midfield to intercept.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages through numerical superiority in midfield. By having five players in the middle, SK Rapid can easily win the battle for possession and bypass the opponent's midfield easily. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads when the wingers and midfielders combine to isolate defenders in one on one situations.

SK Rapid relies on a high risk, high reward system that prioritizes central dominance. This formation is best suited for matches where the team can squeeze the space and dominate a ball playing opponent.
