Gimnasia (LP) Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Weigandt · Alderete · Paradela · Lescano · Ramón Sosa · Castillo · Carbonero · Rodrigo Rey · Torrejón · Piovi · CardozoGimnasia (LP) focuses on a high press and direct verticality through a 4-3-3. This formation is built to win the ball high up the pitch and quickly find the forwards to exploit gaps in the opposition defense. The team wants to control the tempo by pressing in waves and using the width of the pitch to stretch the opponent.
Rodrigo Rey plays between the posts to organize the back line. The defense operates as a flat back four where Weigandt acts as an attacking full back to provide width on the right. On the left, Torrejón provides balance and can overlap to support the wing. In the center, Alderete and Piovi form a partnership where they focus on defending zonally and winning the second ball. They must stay compact to ensure they do not get caught out when the team pushes high.
The midfield functions with a three-man midfield with a carrier and a creative presence. Lescano and Cardozo work to control the center, with one often looking to drive forward with the ball to break the line. Paradela operates in the space behind the striker, acting as an attacking ten to connect the lines. Paradela finds pockets of space to receive on the half-turn and play through the lines. The midfielders must also work to squeeze the space when the team defends in a mid-block.
The attacking unit uses three attackers across the front to pin the last defender. Carbonero and Ramón Sosa act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create goal scoring chances. This movement allows Weigandt and Torrejón to push higher up the pitch. Castillo acts as the central striker, tasked to hold up the ball and find the feet of the oncoming midfielders. The front three press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.
Gimnasia (LP) gains a tactical advantage by using wide overloads when the full backs join the attack. They also benefit from the ability to press high in coordinated waves, which often leads to quick turnovers. The movement of Carbonero and Ramón Sosa creates space for late runs from the midfield, making the transition very dangerous for the opposition.
This 4-3-3 lineup is designed for aggressive, high intensity football. It is best suited for games against teams that struggle to play out from the back under pressure.
