A system created with the sole intention of going up against FC Barcelona.

A 3 man defence supplemented with a packed midfield where all 6 will defend. Wayne Rooney can drop deep to help out with the midfield.

This formation is designed with Barcelona's narrow system in mind. Ashley Young and Phil Jones will counter any width Daniel Alves will attempt to offer. Phil Jones, Tom Cleverley and Oliveira Anderson are all capable of adding width to the team if necessary.

Should a Barcelona defender push in to midfield to balance the numbers game, this will allow more space to play the ball into, and will give Rooney more freedom in his attacking duties.

Vidic aside, this is a team with truly effective ball-retention abilities.

Players who would be selected on the subs bench who would be brought into the game for a variety of tactical changes are Patrice Evra, Antonio Valencia, Park Ji-Sung, Ryan Giggs, Darren Fletcher, Danny Welbeck, Michael Owen and Dimitar Berbatov. The versatility of Phil Jones is also vital to changing the system if necessary.
