Argentina Formation 2012

Argentina Football Formation

Creation DateJune 28, 2012

Lineup (3-5-2)

Messi · Di Steffano · Maradona · Ortega · Di Maria · Veron · Riquelme · Samuel · Ayala · Passarella · Goycochea

Goycochea is probably the most legendary goalkeeper Argentina has ever had.

Leaving Zanetti out was a tough decision, but with the players Argentina have had, they should attempt to dominate the midfield and create chances. So the three centre backs should provide enough cover.

Riquelme is a wonderfully creative midfielder, and has great control of the ball under pressure, as well as a good for pass. He can strike a great free kick too. Veron is there to supply long balls for Messi, ala Fabregas, in case other options fail.

With three greats like Maradona, Di Steffano and Messi in your team, it's tough to decide where to play them. Maradona is lying deep as he is probably the most creative of them. Messi trumps Di Steffano to lead the line due to his ability to time runs to perfection and his clinical finishing, and Di Steffano can switch between linking the play, and making runs into the box.

Ortega on the the right can provide some flare, while Di Maria is a classic winger with lots of speed, a great touch and can provide crosses.
