Lineup (4-2-3-1)

I personally think that the long term formation for Manchester United should be 4-2-3-1 with Kagawa on the left and Rooney in the middle like below.
First of all put Kagawa on the left but give him a FREE ROLE to roam where he wants and when he wants and dictate the game just like David Silva. Silva starts on the left but he has a complete free role to go where he wants on the pitch. It works perfectly. We have enough cover on the left with Evra bombing down the wing to still have width

Secondly, Van Persie, Rooney and Kagawa are capable of playing in a variety of positions and are capable of constantly interchanging. When we had Ronaldo Tevez and Rooney, it was the same then and when players are constantly changing positions it can often make it impossible to play against.
