Spain Football Formation
Lineup (4-5-1)
GK · LB · LCB · RB · RCB · CDM · LCM · RCM · RAM · LAM · CAMEssentially a 4-6-0, but as FIFA doesn't allow this formation, it would have to be a 4-5-1 in the clubs screen, and then people playing in the 4-6-0 roles as shown above.
Spain played this formation to perfection, keeping possession with the 6 midfielders by passing it backwards, sideways and forwards. They conceded 1 goal all Euro 2012 due to a deep defensive line, high pressure from the 6 midfielders, and the fact they kept the ball so well. They also scored a decent amount of goals, as essentially, the CAM (Fabregas) played as a false 9, meaning he dropped deeper to be a part of the possession play, but also making runs beyond the defence. Passes should be kept short and intricate around the opponents penalty area, drawing defenders out of position. On the attack, the side also has to get numbers forward. The front three should always be in advanced positions when their team is putting pressure on the opposition. This means that there will always be players making runs from deep and looking to make themselves available for the piercing through balls supplied by their teammates in midfield. The compact midfield allows you to sit deep without giving the opposition too much space to work with, this also allows for quick and short passes to move the ball upfield, since every player is in close range of each other. The two central midfielders also need to support the attack to make sure the players up top don't get isolated, whilst the holding midfielder behind them sits and acts as a destroyer, stopping attacks from the opposition.
