- Three central defenders gives the team a strong spine and mitigates the inconsistent marking of Marcelo and Alves. Silva and Dante are solid at the back, and allow Luiz, Alves, Marcelo, and Ramires to go forward and join the attack as needed (with Alves and Marcelo playing as pure wingbacks).
- Oscar plays a central playmaking role, more advanced than his typical role at Chelsea (in other words, his typical role for the Selecao under Mano Menezes). \
- Lucas Moura offers speed and skill to burn on the right (even at this young age, he is superior to Hulk, who makes a fine sub off the bench), Neymar is the star of the team, and Fred is the best/most consistent finisher available.
