Argentina Football Formation
Lineup (3-5-2)
Carizzo · Passarella · Ruggeri · Monti · Redondo · Cambiasso · Sorin · Zanetti · Maradona · Messi · SivoriThis is not Argentina's first choice formation, but it is certainly a potent one. I believe it uses Argentina's wingbacks to the best effect, and suits Maradona in particular perfectly (this is the formation he was played in during the 1986 World Cup). I also think its important to use two deep lying forwards in the front two instead of a natural number nine (such as Batistuta), because their natural inclination to drop deep allows Maradona to push forward into the space. This formation would be a nightmare for any team not playing a 4-2-3-1.
Note: This formation also leaves room for more offensive substitutions, such as a natural striker in place for one of the deep lying forwards, or a natural wide midfielder or winger in place of the wingbacks.
