France's best writers are also philosophers, and her best philosophers are also writers, a perfect situation to play a false-9, and they're so monumentally skillful that one can imagine a brilliant attacking passing game. Usually this comes with some weakness in back, but France's artists are world-class. This is a nation with incredible depth at all positions, and choosing a best XI presents difficulties. Here is my attempt - lacking Sartre, Moliere, Racine, Ravel, Degas, Renoir, countless greatness to represent this tremendous nation.

I chose Henri IV in goal for the primary reason that his grandson, Louis XIV clearly doesn't have the temperament for holding down goal. Neither does Napoleon for that matter - pressed in defense, both made critical lapses. The 2nd choice keeper would easily be de Gaulle.

Also, R.U.A. stands for Racing Universitaire d'Alger, the club Camus actually played for in Algeria.
