England Formation 2014

England Football Formation

Creation DateFebruary 23, 2014

Lineup (4-1-4-1)

Rooney · Johnson · Townsend · Henderson · Gerrard · Barry · Walker · Baines · Jagielka · Cahill · Hart

Hart is the obvious first choice in goal, despite a few poor moments this season. The back four is the most solid for England at the moment - some may prefer G.Johnson over Walker, but I think Walker's pace will be useful without Walcott at the World Cup, and Cole isn't performing well enough to be a starter (coming from a Chelsea fan) so Baines starts.

Barry is probably the surprise inclusion, but the way he has worked with Jagielka and particularly Baines this season means that he could be an excellent shield for the back four, also covering on the left for Baines' runs forward. It also means Gerrard and Henderson (another brilliant pairing this season) can push slightly further upfield to provide support for our best striking option in either Rooney or another Liverpool player on top form - Sturridge. Sturridge could be an amazing sub.

With Walcott out, I think one of A.Johnson/Lennon should start on the right based on recent form and on the left I've picked Townsend but could be the Ox or Sterling if they perform well at the end of the season.
