There are always 3 central defenders providing enough cover if you lose the ball. 2 attacking wingbacks can join attacking play and drop back when defending to provide 5 at the back and to keep width. Alonso has the quality to control the middle and play it to Kaka who can drop short, run into space and distribute to Ronaldo or Ozil. Higuain will always be on the last man to get the goals.

When defending its more a 5-1-3-1 formation.
When attacking its more a 3-1-5-1 formation.

The only 3 players who have to work hard are Marcelo, Ramos and Alonso but they all have very good stamina and quality.

Its more of a counter attacking formation but ball retention is possible because there are triangles all over the pitch,
