Liverpool Football Formation
Lineup (4-4-2)
Dante · Hummels · Marcelo · Lahm · De Rossi · Schweinsteiger · Fabregas · Sterling · Lewandowski · IniestaDiamond.
Sterling plays behind Lewandowski and Iniesta.
Iniesta gets a free role on the attacking front, with the freedom to drift wide and take advantage of space left behind or create space for the other. Iniesta will also interchange with Sterling on this front.
Schweinsteiger will play his natural box to box role with Fabregas playing a similar role with the exception of being more responsible for our playmaking responsibilities along with DeRossi who plays the Holding role.
Fabregas will also support his fullback with due defensive duty.
The idea behind having Sterling play the playmaker behind the striker-forward pair is to exploit a general lack of pace in their midfielders. None of Sahin, Hendo or Alonso/Pirlo have a burst of pace even when running back. Sterling's pace will help him break in behind them and bring their CBs off their line (Neither are all that positionally disciplined) thus creating space centrally on a consistent basis.
The diamond will also help us control possession a whole lot in which situation we will run much of our initial playmaking through Cesc who will use his movement to take any one marking him all over the pitch.
Cesc's defense splitting passes will be aptly used by Lewa, Iniesta and Sterling who in between them have incredible pace and outrageous movement good enough to carve open any defense.
Defensively our defenders build from the back but don't toy around during evident danger.
With two midfielders defending the fullbacks and one still available centrally, I don't see us having much trouble from the wings. CR7 should have a tough time against Lahm and Bastian. Even if he cuts in the midfield and defense should have him covered.
General idea is to blow them away in the first half with immense pressing, good possession football. We want to score a couple or more and then wait on them to try and get back into the game. They will leave a lot of space to exploit and with a lack of pace in midfield they would be in trouble on the counter attack.
