Starting Lineup

Oleksiy Shlyakotin · Makoto Rindo · Choi Woo Jae · Fernando Lopes · Kim Min Kyu · Jean Jacques Kilama · Ryota Hayashi · Akito Okamoto · Yumemi Kanada · Ibrahim Yakubu Nassam · Yosuke Kamigata

Sha Tin relies on a heavy attacking intent to overwhelm opponents, utilizing a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup is built to play a high risk, high reward style of football that looks to dominate the final third through sheer numbers. By committing many players forward, the team seeks to pin the opposition back and create constant chaos in the penalty area.

Ibrahim Yakubu Nassam sits in goal and acts as the last line of defense for Sha Tin. The defensive unit is very thin, featuring a central pairing of Yosuke Kamigata and Yumemi Kanada. These two central defenders must act as covering defenders to manage the space behind them, as they operate with very little protection. They have to be ready to step up to play an offside trap or drop deep to sweep behind the high line when the opposition breaks.

The midfield operates as a box to connect the defense to the heavy front line. Ryota Hayashi sits in the deep position to shield the two defenders and win the second ball. Ahead of him, Akito Okamoto and Kim Min Kyu work to drive forward with the ball and progress through the thirds. Jean Jacques Kilama operates as the attacking ten, finding space between the lines to play through the lines and provide the final pass. This midfield unit must work hard to recycle possession and stop counters before they reach the back two.

In the attacking phase, the team spreads wide with Choi Woo Jae on the left and Fernando Lopes on the right. These wide players aim to stretch the defense and deliver crosses into the box. In the center, Makoto Rindo and Oleksiy Shlyakotin operate as two forwards in a partnership. They focus on link-up play and making runs in behind to punish the opposition. The goal is to use these four attackers to pin the last defender and create a multitude of passing lanes.

One major strength of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads and central congestion. By having four players in the attacking line, Sha Tin can quickly switch play to isolate wide players in one on one situations. Additionally, the box midfield allows the team to control the center of the pitch and win the ball back high up the pitch through coordinated pressing.

This aggressive formation is designed to suffocate opponents through offensive volume. It is best suited for games where Sha Tin needs to chase a result against a team that sits deep.
