Auxerre Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Léon · Jubal · Osho · Mensah · Joly · Raveloson · Owusu · Perrin · Sinayoko · Onaiwu · AyéAuxerre looks to play a direct and high pressing game using a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to attack quickly and put heavy pressure on the opposition defense from the first whistle. The goal is to pin the opposition back and use the four players in the front line to create constant chaos in the final third.
Léon sits between the posts to organize the back line. The defensive unit works as a flat back four, with Jubal and Osho acting as the central pair. Jubal looks to play out from the back to progress through the thirds, while Osho provides cover to sweep behind the line. Mensah and Joly operate as overlapping full backs, pushing up to support the attack. They must hold a high line to squeeze the space and force the opponent to go direct.
In midfield, Owusu and Raveloson form a double pivot. This pair is tasked with protecting the center and winning the second ball. One of them must drop deep to receive the ball from the defenders, while the other drives forward to carry the ball into the middle third. They act as the link that connects the back four to the front four, ensuring the team can recycle possession when needed.
The attacking line is heavy with Sinayoko and Perrin acting as wide players who cut inside to trouble the defense. In the center, Ayé and Onaiwu work as two forwards in a partnership. Ayé often looks to hold up the ball to allow others to join the attack, while Onaiwu looks to make runs in behind the defense. This front four is designed to press the opposition back line immediately upon losing the ball, aiming to win it back high up the pitch and exploit the transition.
Auxerre finds success through the speed of transition and wide overloads. The wide players, Sinayoko and Perrin, create these when they cut inside or pull wide, forcing the opposition defenders to shift and leave gaps. This formation also allows the team to press in coordinated waves, making it very difficult for the opponent to play short from the back or find the feet of the striker.
This formation is an aggressive system centered on verticality and heavy pressure. It is best used against teams that struggle to defend in wide areas or those that play with a high defensive line.
