This Hull lineup operates with a high press and a heavy emphasis on attacking numbers, using a 2-5-3 formation. The goal is to pin the opposition in their own half and use extreme central presence to overwhelm the defensive line. By committing so many bodies forward, the team looks to win the ball back high up the pitch and exploit any space left behind the opponent.

Pandur starts between the posts to manage the defensive line. Ahead of him, Jones and Hughes form a back two that must remain extremely disciplined. As central defenders, they need to be able to cover large amounts of space and win the second ball if the press is bypassed. Because there are only two defenders, they often have to defend man-to-man or step up to intercept passes before the opposition can hit in behind on the transition.

The midfield is a massive five man unit designed to dominate the center of the pitch. Zambrano acts as the central anchor to shield the defense and recycle possession. On either side, Coyle and Giles operate as the engine, helping to press aggressively and drive forward with the ball. Puerta and Mehlem play in the half spaces as attacking midfielders, looking to find the feet of the striker or pull wide to stretch the defense. This heavy midfield presence allows Hull to control the tempo and squeeze the space in the middle.

The attacking trio is built for constant pressure and quick combinations. Kamara leads the line as a pressing centre forward, working to harass the opposition center backs. On the flanks, Millar and Belloumi act as wide attackers who can either cut inside to cause chaos or spread wide to provide width. They aim to create runs in behind or receive the ball in tight spaces to play a one-two with the midfielders. The movement is designed to pin the last defender and create openings through constant passing through the lines.

One major advantage of this 2-5-3 formation is the massive numerical superiority in the central areas, which makes it very difficult for opponents to play out from the back. The heavy midfield block allows the team to win it back high up the pitch and launch immediate attacks. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads when the attacking midfielders like Puerta or Mehlem push higher to support the wingers.

This formation is built for total dominance and high intensity through a relentless press. It is best suited for games where Hull face a low block and need to overwhelm the opposition in their own third.
