Starting Lineup

Las Palmas aims to play with a high press and a very direct attacking intent through a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to stretch the opposition and commit many players into the final third to create chances. The team seeks to win the ball high up the pitch and move toward the goal with speed.

Bobby acts as the goalkeeper to protect the net while the defensive unit maintains a high line. The back four consists of Liam and Rodrigo as the two central defenders, while Riley and Voni occupy the wide positions. Liam and Rodrigo must be ready to step up to catch opponents offside or cover the space behind the high line. Riley and Voni play as full backs to support the wide areas, though they must track back quickly to help the central defenders when the team loses possession.

The midfield consists of a double pivot with Dylan and Ollie working to control the middle. Dylan and Ollie must work hard to win the second ball and protect the two central defenders. One of them often needs to drop deeper to help play out from the back, while the other works to connect the defense to the front four. They are tasked to press in a mid-block to disrupt the opponent and try to win it back high up the pitch to start an attack.

In the attacking phase, Las Palmas uses four players across the front to pin the last defender. Jacob and Alfie play as wide attackers, with Jacob staying wide to stretch the defense and Alfie looking to cut inside to attack the box. Gamble and Roberto operate as two forwards in a partnership to lead the line. Gamble and Roberto work to hold up the ball and lay it off to the incoming midfielders, while also looking to hit in behind on the transition.

The main advantage of this 4-2-4 lineup is the ability to create wide overloads and high pressure in the opponent's half. By committing four players to the attack, Las Palmas can isolate wide players in one on one situations. The team also benefits from the speed of transition when Dylan and Ollie win the ball and immediately find the forwards.

This formation is designed for a high risk, high reward style of play. Las Palmas will find the most success against teams that struggle to play through a heavy press or those that leave large gaps between their midfield and defensive lines.
