Starting Lineup

Aberdeen operates with a heavy focus on defensive solidity and quick transitions using a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and deny space in the middle, waiting to strike when the opposition leaves gaps. Aberdeen uses a lone striker to lead the line, requiring the ST to hold up the ball and fight for possession. The attack relies on the RM and LM to provide width, either by hugging the touchline or cutting inside to create overloads. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. When moving into transition, the team looks to hit in behind on the transition, using the AM and the wide players to create runs in behind the opponent's back line.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create compactness when defending, making it very difficult for the opposition to play through the middle.
