Starting Lineup

Iñaki Peña · Kounde · Curbasi · I. Martínez · Balde · Pedri · Marc Casadó · Lamine Yamal · Dani Olmo · Raphinha · Ferrán

Barcelona looks to control the game through high possession and a constant press in this 4-5-1. This formation is built to dominate the ball in the middle third and squeeze the space in the opposition half. By keeping players close together, the team tries to dictate the tempo and force mistakes from the opponent.

Iñaki Peña stays between the posts to organize the back four. The defensive line consists of Kounde at right back, Curbasi and I. Martínez as the central pair, and Balde at left back. Kounde can overlap to provide width while I. Martínez and Curbasi defend zonally to cover the space behind. Balde is expected to push up high to act as a wide threat, leaving the central defenders to hold the line and manage the offside trap.

The midfield unit is the engine of the Barcelona lineup. This five-man midfield features two tens in the half-spaces with Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo, while Pedri sits deeper to receive the ball and use his passing range. Marc Casadó works to shield the defense, and Raphinha provides energy to press high and track back. Together, these players connect the defensive and attacking lines by recycling possession and finding ways to play through the lines.

Ferrán leads the line as a lone striker, tasked with holding up the ball and pressing the opposition center backs. The attack relies on the movement of the midfielders to provide service. Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo cut inside to create central overloads, while the wide players look to get to the byline for crosses. Ferrán must work to pin the last defender to create space for the runners arriving late into the box from the midfield.

One major advantage of this lineup is the numerical superiority in the center of the pitch. Having five players in the midfield makes it very hard for opponents to bypass the central block. Another strength is the ability to press in coordinated waves, using the intensity of Raphinha and Ferrán to win the ball back high up the pitch. This allows the team to quickly transition into an attacking phase before the defense can set.

This 4-5-1 formation focuses on ball retention and central dominance. It is best suited for matches against teams that sit deep and try to defend in a low block.
