Starting Lineup

OVANDO · MOREL · BORRO · AVALOS · FARNEDA · MANSILLA · VILLORDO · VENTOS · CUMBA · SOSA · BLANCO

Modena aims to play with a direct and vertical identity using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup focuses on strong defensive banks and quick transitions to catch opponents off guard. The team looks to sit deep and then launch attacks through wide areas or direct balls to the front line.

OVANDO guards the goal and oversees the defensive unit. The back line functions as a back five with MANSILLA acting as the central anchor to organize the line. AVALOS and BORRO operate as wide centre-backs to cover the channels and provide strength in the air. FARNEDA and MOREL act as attacking wing backs to provide width and stretch the play. This defensive block works to squeeze the space in the middle and force the opposition into wide areas where they can be tackled.

A double pivot manages the central area of the pitch. VENTOS and VILLORDO operate as the two central midfielders tasked with controlling the tempo and winning the second ball. VENTOS works to shield the defence and recycle possession, while VILLORDO looks to carry the ball forward to link the back line with the attackers. These two must track back quickly to maintain a compact shape when the team loses possession. They act as the engine room to connect the defensive unit to the front three.

The attacking front line consists of three players positioned to exploit space behind the opposition. CUMBA acts as the lone striker to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. SOSA plays as a wide winger on the left and BLANCO operates on the right to provide width. Both SOSA and BLANCO look to cut inside to create shooting opportunities or deliver crosses into the box. The front three press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.

Modena gains a significant advantage through the width provided by FARNEDA and MOREL which creates wide overloads. The formation also offers great compactness when defending in a low block. The speed of transition allows the team to move from a defensive stance to an attacking one very quickly once the ball is won.

This 5-2-3 formation provides a solid defensive base while allowing for rapid counter attacks. It is best suited for matches against teams that dominate possession and leave space behind their defensive line.
