América (MG) Football Formation
Starting Lineup
? · CEARÁ/EVANILSON · GILBERTO MELO · DANILO · GILBERTO SILVA · CEREZO · ZARATE · PAULO BAIER · MANCINI · EWRTHON · FREDAmérica (MG) prefers to play a vertical style of football that looks to strike quickly on the transition, utilizing a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup focuses on absorbing pressure before launching direct attacks to catch the opposition out of position. By sitting in a compact block, the team aims to control the central areas and use the width of the pitch to exploit gaps.
In front of the goalkeeper, the defensive unit operates with a back three anchored by Cerezo. The central defender acts as the main shield, while Danilo operates as a right centre-back to provide cover and Gilberto Silva works on the left to manage the space. The wing backs, Ceará/Evanilson on the right and Gilberto Melo on the left, are tasked with providing width. These wide defenders must track back to form a five man line when defending deep, but they are also expected to push up to support the flanks during the build up.
The midfield is organized as a three man midfield with a carrier. Paulo Baier works in the right central role to connect the defensive and attacking lines, while Zarate occupies the left central position to help win the second ball. Mancini operates in the space behind the strikers as an attacking ten, looking to find pockets of space between the lines. Mancini serves as the link that allows the team to move from a defensive posture to a forward movement, often looking to play through the lines to find the forwards.
América (MG) employs two forwards in a partnership up front with Fred and Ewrthon. Fred leads the line as a pressing centre-forward, working to disrupt the opposition build up and pin the last defender. Ewrthon operates alongside him, looking to make runs in behind the defensive line. The attack relies on the movement of the two strikers to create space for Mancini to arrive late into the box. When the team wins the ball, the wing backs quickly spread wide to offer passing options, allowing the team to transition from a low block to a direct attacking movement.
This formation offers specific tactical advantages, such as extreme compactness when defending in a mid-block. The presence of three central defenders makes the team very difficult to break down through the middle. Furthermore, the system creates wide overloads when Ceará/Evanilson and Gilberto Melo push forward, forcing the opposition to stretch their own defensive line. This creates more room in the central areas for the midfielders to work.
The 5-3-2 formation provides a reliable platform for teams that want to remain defensively solid while remaining dangerous on the break. This lineup is best suited for games against high pressing opponents where the team can absorb pressure and strike with speed.
