Barcelona aims to dominate games through heavy ball retention and high pressing. They use a four three three formation to control the tempo and pin the last defender. This formation is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and move the ball quickly through the thirds to break the opposition.

A. Becker plays between the posts to start the buildup. The back four functions with J. Koundé on the right and Á. Grimaldo on the left. R. Araújo and A. Laporte operate as the central pair. R. Araújo uses his aerial strength to defend crosses while A. Laporte plays out from the back to start attacks. J. Koundé holds the line while Á. Grimaldo pushes high to overlap the winger. The unit works together to squeeze the space and maintain a high line.

In the center, a three man midfield controls the game. F. de Jong acts as a carrier to drive forward with the ball and connect the defense to the attack. Pedri moves into the half spaces to receive on the half turn and recycle possession. D. Olmo plays as an attacking ten to find gaps between the lines. They work to press in a mid block and win the second ball to keep the pressure on the opponent.

The attacking unit uses width to stretch the defence. Raphinha plays on the right wing and looks to cut inside or get to the byline to deliver a cross. The front three press from the front to force a long ball from the opponent. The players combine in tight spaces to split the defence with a through ball. This creates runs in behind and allows the team to attack in combinations.

One major advantage of this Barcelona lineup is the numerical superiority in midfield. This allows them to control the tempo and move the ball through the thirds easily. They also create wide overloads when Á. Grimaldo and the left winger push up together. The ability to press in coordinated waves makes it hard for teams to build play or pass out from the back.

This four three three is designed to squeeze the opposition and maintain control through passing. It is most effective against teams that play a low block and struggle to handle high pressure.
