Starting Lineup
Patrick Schulte · Yevgen Cheberko (Ukraine) · DeJuan Jones · Malte Amundsen (Denmark) · Darlington Nagbe (captain) · Dylan Chambost (France) · Diego Rossi (Uruguay) · Mohamed Farsi (Algeria) · AZ Jackson · Lassi Lappalainen (Finland) · Jacen Russell Rowe (Canada)Columbus relies on a high pressing identity to force mistakes and play quickly in a 3-3-4 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opposition in the final third through sheer numbers and constant pressure. The goal is to win the ball back high up the pitch and strike before the opponent can reset their defensive lines.
Jacen Russell Rowe starts between the posts to command his area. Ahead of him, the defense operates as a back three where AZ Jackson sits central to organize the unit. Dylan Chambost occupies the right side of this trio while Diego Rossi holds the left. The defenders work to squeeze the space and step up to trigger a press, though they must be careful to cover the space behind when the team pushes forward.
The midfield operates with three players who must cover massive amounts of ground. Lassi Lappalainen and Mohamed Farsi occupy the central roles to connect the defense to the attack, while Darlington Nagbe plays as the attacking ten. Nagbe acts as the link, looking to receive on the half-turn to find the forwards. Lappalainen and Farsi need to win the second ball and move the ball forward quickly to keep the pressure on the opponent.
The attacking unit is extremely aggressive with four players pushing high. Yevgen Cheberko and Patrick Schulte lead the line as two forwards to pin the last defender and contest every ball. They are supported by DeJuan Jones on the left and Malte Amundsen on the right. DeJuan Jones and Malte Amundsen act as wide attackers who look to cut inside and create chaos in the box. This heavy front line is designed to create runs in behind and force the opposition back into their own goal.
Columbus gains a massive advantage through their ability to press in coordinated waves. The sheer number of players in the attacking half makes it difficult for opponents to play out from the back. This formation also allows for immediate pressure if the ball is lost, as the midfielders and attackers are already positioned to win it back high up the pitch.
This high energy formation is designed to dominate games through intense offensive pressure. It is best suited for situations where Columbus can exploit a disorganized defense or a team that struggles to play under heavy pressure.
