This 3-5-2 formation is built to play a heavy pressing game while maintaining central control. The lineup relies on a strong core to dominate the middle of the field and create chances through direct combinations.
The defensive unit starts with ΘΕΟΔΩΡΙΔΗΣ in goal to organize the back line. A back three consists of ΠΟΛΥΧΡΟΝΙΟΥ as the central defender, flanked by ΜΟΥΡΑΤΗΣ on the left and NOSELAC on the right. ΠΟΛΥΧΡΟΝΙΟΥ acts as the main anchor, while NOSELAC and ΜΟΥΡΑΤΗΣ must stay compact to defend the central zones and cover for any runners. The unit functions to hold a high line when the team presses, making sure they stay close to the midfield to minimize space between the lines.
In the middle of the park, the team utilizes a five man midfield to saturate the central zones. RIVALDO and ΜΠΕΜΠΗΣ act as the double pivot to shield the defense and win second balls. Ahead of them, GIOVANNI and DJORDJEVIC operate as inverted eights to connect the play, while ΔΕΛΗΚΑΡΗΣ works to drive the ball forward and create central presence. This midfield group is designed to press in pairs to force long balls from the opposition and quickly recycle possession once the ball is won.
The attacking front line features a partnership of two forwards. ΑΝΑΣΤΟΠΟΥΛΟΣ and ΣΙΔΕΡΗΣ play as a pair to stretch the defense and work in tandem. They often play on the shoulder of the last defender to make runs in behind. When the team builds in possession, these two look to combine in tight spaces or hold up the ball to allow the midfield to push up. Their movement is designed to pin the last defender and create gaps for the oncoming midfielders to arrive late into the box.
Olympiacos gains a significant advantage through numerical superiority in the midfield. By having five players in the center, they can easily bypass the midfield of teams using a standard two man pivot. Another strength is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front two and the advancing midfielders to squeeze the space in the opposition half. This setup makes it very difficult for opponents to build out from the back without making mistakes.
This formation is built for heavy central dominance and aggressive ball recovery. It is best suited for games where the team needs to overwhelm the opponent in the middle of the pitch to dictate the tempo.
