Moreirense Football Formation
Starting Lineup
KEWIN (73) · OWUSU FRIMPONG (69) · ALI (74) · MARACAS (73) · PINTO (68) · RUBEN ISMAEL (70) · OFORI (71) · ANTONISSE (66) · ALAN (73) · TEGUIA (68) · SCHETTINE (70)Moreirense relies on a compact mid-block and heavy central presence in a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup is built to control the central areas and limit space for the opposition. By packing the middle of the pitch, the team can squeeze the space between the lines and wait for the right moment to hit in behind on the transition.
KEWIN stays between the posts to organize the back line. The defensive unit uses a flat back four with PINTO at right back and OWUSU FRIMPONG at left back. ALI and MARACAS act as the two central defenders, working to hold the line and cover any runners. The full backs are tasked to track back quickly if the ball is switched, while ALI and MARACAS focus on winning the second ball and clearing the lines when under pressure. The whole unit works to maintain a compact block when defending.
The midfield is the engine of this Moreirense formation. It features a double pivot with RUBEN ISMAEL and OFORI sitting in front of the defense to shield the back four. Ahead of them, ANTONISSE and TEGUIA operate as two central midfielders who connect the defense to the attack. They work to win the second ball and recycle possession to move the team up the pitch. ALAN plays as the attacking ten in the hole, tasked to find the feet of the striker and play through the lines. This midfield group can shift together to block passing lanes and press in a mid-block.
In the final third, the team uses SCHETTINE as a lone striker to lead the line. SCHETTINE is expected to lead the press from the front and hold up the ball to find the feet of oncoming runners. ALAN plays a vital role as a second striker in the hole, looking to arrive late into the box or slip through balls to the forward. The wide midfielders must support the attack by spreading wide to stretch the defence and providing crosses into the box. When the team wins the ball, they look to break quickly and use combinations in tight spaces to find SCHETTINE.
This 4-5-1 formation offers significant numerical superiority in the center of the pitch. Having five players in the middle allows the team to compress the midfield and deny the pivot of the opposition. Another strength is the ability to defend in a compact mid-block, making it very difficult for opponents to play through the lines. This formation allows for a quick transition from a defensive block to an attacking phase once the ball is won back high up the pitch.
Moreirense utilizes this formation to remain defensively solid while controlling the center of the pitch. It is a lineup best suited for facing teams that dominate possession but struggle to break down a crowded midfield.
