Starting Lineup

Cubarsí acts as a ball playing defender to play out from the back and find teammates in midfield. Iñigo and Garcia provide cover while maintaining a high line to squeeze the space and win the ball high up the pitch. They defend zonally to ensure the team stays compact when the ball is lost.

The midfield contains five players to control the center of the pitch. Frenkie and Pedri sit in the deep positions to shield the defense and recycle possession. Kounde operates as a carrier in the middle to move the ball through the thirds and link the lines. Raphinha and Yamal push higher up to support the attack. Yamal acts as an attacking ten to find pockets of space between the opposition lines. This formation allows the team to bypass the midfield and reach the final third quickly.

Two forwards lead the attack with Ferran and Olmo working in a partnership. They often combine in tight spaces to break the line. Ferran works to hold up the ball and lay it off to oncoming runners. Olmo looks to make runs in behind to exploit the space left by the defense. Yamal supports them by operating in the half-spaces to provide service and create chances. The team uses combinations to pull defenders out of position and create chances for the strikers to arrive late into the box.

This formation offers numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch. By having five players in the central area, Barcelona can control the game and win the second ball frequently. The ability to play out from the back with Cubarsí and the defensive trio helps the team maintain control. The midfield can also shift to create overloads in wide areas when Raphinha or Kounde push forward to stretch the defence.
