Barcelona plays with a heavy focus on winning the ball high up the pitch in a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to dominate through a high press to squeeze the space and win it back high up the pitch immediately. The goal is to keep the opponent pinned in their own half and use constant pressure to force mistakes and win the second ball.

Aron Yaakobishvili stays behind a very high defensive line. Kospo and Cubarsi form the back two, acting as ball playing central defenders who can step up to compress the midfield. They must be extremely quick to cover ground if the opposition tries to hit in behind on the transition, often relying on setting the offside trap to maintain their high position. Both defenders must work as a unit to sweep behind the line when the midfield is bypassed.

The midfield is crowded to ensure absolute dominance in the center of the pitch. Jofre and Balde form a double pivot to shield the defense, while Bernal works to connect the defensive and attacking lines by dropping deep to receive. Gavi uses his high pressing intensity to win the ball in the half-spaces, while Fermin Lopez looks to arrive late into the box to score. This group helps to recycle possession and build in triangles to move the ball forward.

The front line consists of three attackers across the front, including wide wingers and a pressing centre-forward. Lamine Yamal and Pedro Fernandez act as wide threats, with Lamine Yamal using his dribbling style to cut inside and create chances. Ebrima Tunkara works as a pressing centre-forward to pin the last defender and find the feet of the striker from deeper players. To ensure the opposition cannot play out from the back easily, the forwards press from the front to deny the turn.

A major advantage for Barcelona is the numerical superiority in midfield, which makes it easy to control the ball and play short from the back. The ability to press high in coordinated waves forces the opponent to move the ball wide or go direct. This lineup allows the team to switch play quickly and isolate wide players in one on one situations during transitions.

This 2-5-3 formation is designed for total aggression and controlling the ball. It is best suited for matches where the team can overwhelm the opposition in the center of the pitch.
