Starting Lineup

Norway utilizes a 2-6-2 formation to implement a high press and aggressive central dominance. This lineup is built to squeeze the opposition and win the ball back high up the pitch. Ahead of them, Ødegaard, Nypan, and Aursnes operate in the half-spaces. Ødegaard uses his passing range to split the defense with a through ball, while Nypan and Aursnes press aggressively to trigger a press. This central density allows Norway to deny the pivot and control the tempo.

In the final third, Norway employs two forwards in a partnership. Haaland and Sørloth lead the line, providing both speed and strength. Haaland looks to run in behind the defense to exploit space, while Sørloth acts as a target man to hold up the ball. The attackers work to pin the last defender, creating space for the midfielders to arrive late into the box. The team attacks in combinations, looking to play through the lines or use the wide midfielders to spread wide and eventually whip it in to the strikers.

A major strength of this lineup is the massive numerical superiority in midfield. Having six players in the center allows Norway to compress the midfield and overwhelm opponents. The ability to press high in coordinated waves makes it very difficult for the other team to build in triangles or play short from the back. Furthermore, the speed of transition when Haaland and Sørloth receive the ball can catch a defense off guard before they can set the offside trap.
