The midfield consists of two central players and two wide players to create a compact block. Samad and Fagbol operate as a central pairing to control the tempo and connect the defense to the attack. Samad works to shield the defense while Fagbol looks to carry the ball forward into the final third. On the wings, Tumzy and Joskid provide the width needed to stretch the opposition. Tumzy and Joskid must track back to help the full backs when the team is out of possession.

Barcelona uses two forwards in a partnership to lead the attack. Julius and Shooter act as the primary threats, with Julius playing as the more advanced striker. Shooter works to hold up the ball and link play with the midfielders. The two attackers press the opposition back line to trigger a press from the front. This formation creates many chances for runs in behind and allows the wingers, Tumzy and Joskid, to deliver crosses into the box.

This 4-4-2 provides great compactness when defending in a mid-block. The team can create numerical superiority in the middle when Samad and Fagbol win the second ball. Another strength is the speed of transition, where Shooter and Julius can break quickly to catch the defense off guard.
