ALONG sits in a deep role to shield the defense, while AM provides cover in a double pivot alongside ALONG. In front of them, AMIR and AMMAR occupy the half spaces to connect the defense and attack. FITRI plays as the central link, working to recycle possession and drive forward with the ball when space opens up. This group works to compress the midfield and prevent the opposition from playing through the lines.

Malaysia employs a lone striker in HADI to lead the line. HADI acts as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition back line and win the ball high up the pitch. The wide midfielders must track back to support the full backs, creating a defensive wall when out of possession. When the team wins the ball, the midfielders look to find the feet of the striker or hit in behind on the transition. The goal is to use the width of the pitch to stretch the defence and create runs in behind.
