Barcelona aims to dominate through extreme central congestion and high ball retention using a 2-5-3 formation. The attacking front three relies on width and verticality to stretch the opposition. Raphinha and Rashford act as wide wingers who look to cut inside to create goal scoring opportunities. Lewandowski operates as a lone striker and a target man, looking to hold up the ball and win the header when crosses come in. This front line is designed to press from the front to force a long ball, allowing the midfield to intercept and start a quick attack.

One major advantage for Barcelona is the numerical superiority in midfield that makes it very difficult for opponents to play through the center. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads when the wingers and midfielders shift to support the ball.
