Lens Football Formation
Starting Lineup
RISSER (75) · MEDINA (81) · SARR (74) · UDOL (74) · CHAVEZ (74) · LABEAU-LASCARY (74) · THOMASSON (78) · SANGARE (74) · SIMA (77) · SATRIANO (75) · GUILAVOGUI (73)A high press and vertical identity defines Lens and their use of a 3-4-3. The team looks to win the ball high up the pitch and strike quickly before the opposition can settle. This lineup is built to play with high intensity, looking to win the second ball and move the play forward through the thirds at pace.
RISSER operates as the goalkeeper to anchor the defensive unit. The back line features a back three made up of MEDINA, SARR, and UDOL. MEDINA covers the left side of the defense while UDOL handles the right, leaving SARR to sit centrally and hold the line. These defenders work together to defend zonally and squeeze the space as the team pushes up. They often step up to set the offside trap or drop into a low block if the team needs to protect a lead.
The midfield consists of a central pair with THOMASSON and SANGARE acting as the engine. They work to shield the defense and intercept passes in a mid-block. THOMASSON and SANGARE are responsible to connect the defensive and attacking lines by recycling possession and playing through the lines. On the flanks, CHAVEZ and LABEAU-LASCARY provide the width. They must track back to cover the wide areas but also drive forward with the ball to support the attack.
The attacking front line uses three players to stretch the opposition. SIMA and GUILAVOGUI operate as wide attackers, with SIMA looking to cut inside and GUILAVOGUI looking to spread wide. SATRIANO acts as the lone striker, tasked to find the feet of the midfielders or make runs in behind the last defender. The front three press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. They use combinations in tight spaces to create openings and look to whip it in toward the penalty area.
This formation offers the advantage of pressing high in coordinated waves. By having the front three and the wide midfielders in close proximity, Lens can trigger a press that is hard to bypass. The team also benefits from wide overloads when CHAVEZ or LABEAU-LASCARY overlap the winger to create a two on one situation. These movements allow the team to win the ball back high up the pitch and attack with numbers.
The 3-4-3 formation focuses on aggressive pressing and rapid transitions. This formation is most effective against teams that struggle to play short from the back under intense pressure.
