Lens utilizes a highly vertical style of play centered around a 3-4-3 formation. The team aims to play with high intensity to catch opponents out of position through quick transitions. This lineup is built to move the ball quickly through the thirds and use the full width of the pitch to stretch the opposition defense.

In goal, RISSER oversees the defensive unit. The team defends with a back three consisting of SARR in the middle, with RINALDI on the right and MEDINA on the left. SARR must hold the line and manage the space while RINALDI and MEDINA cover the wide channels. This back three works to defend zonally and can step up to squeeze the space or drop into a low block to deny the turn of an oncoming striker.

The midfield features a double pivot designed to control the central zone. BARBOSA and MEIRELLES sit in front of the defense to shield the back three and recycle possession. They play short from the back to build play and look to break the line with vertical passes. MARQUET and SANGARE operate in the half spaces as attacking midfielders, tasked to press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch and link the midfield to the front line.

The attacking unit consists of three players focused on breaking the opposition line and attempting to pin the last defender. SATRIANO plays as the lone striker to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. LUNA and RIVAS act as wide wingers, capable of hugging the touchline to spread wide or cutting inside to attack the near post. This allows Lens to attack in combinations, using the movement of LUNA and RIVAS to create runs in behind for SATRIANO or to create space for MARQUET and SANGARE to arrive late into the box.

One tactical advantage is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, utilizing the front three and the two attacking midfielders to force a long ball from the opponent. The formation also offers numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch when the wide players and attacking midfielders combine to occupy central zones. This makes it very difficult for opponents to pass through the center without facing a double up.

This formation is built for a team that wants to dominate transitions and use high pressing to regain control. It is particularly effective against opponents that play a high defensive line and struggle to defend space in behind.
