Starting Lineup

Joan García · Cubarsí · Eric García · de Jong · Pedri · Fermín · Koundé · Balde · Lamine Yamal · Ferrán · Raphinha

Dominating possession and controlling the tempo through short passing is the primary goal for Barcelona in this 3-4-3 formation. The lineup focuses on keeping the ball in tight spaces to tire out the opposition and create openings in the final third. This system builds play from the back, using players to keep the ball moving until a gap appears in the opponent's defensive block.

Joan García sits between the posts to anchor the defense. In front of him, a back three consists of Koundé, Cubarsí, and Eric García. Koundé operates as the right center back, while Cubarsí holds the central position to command the line. Eric García plays as the left center back to provide cover. This defensive unit can step up to intercept passes or drop back to protect the space behind them if the team loses the ball high up the pitch.

The midfield works to bridge the gap between the defense and the attack. De Jong and Pedri act as the central engine, with Pedri using his vision and passing range to find teammates in advanced positions. De Jong helps to drive the ball forward and connects the back three to the rest of the team. Lamine Yamal and Balde occupy the wide areas in a midfield role, providing much needed width and tracking back to help the defenders when needed.

A heavy focus on width and high pressure defines the attacking phase. Ferrán acts as the lone striker to hold up the ball and pin the opposition center backs. Raphinha and Fermín operate as the wide attackers, with Raphinha cutting inside from the left to create chances. The movement of these three forwards is designed to pull defenders out of position, allowing the midfielders to push into the box and exploit the vacated space.

Barcelona gains a huge advantage through numerical superiority in the central zones. When de Jong and Pedri combine with the forwards, they can often overload the opponent's midfield. The team also utilizes wide overloads as Lamine Yamal and Balde push forward to create two on one situations against opposing full backs. This ability to control the ball in central areas makes it very difficult for opponents to maintain a compact block.

This 3-4-3 formation relies on ball retention and aggressive pressing to dictate the game. It is best suited for matches where the team wants to dominate the ball and break down deep defensive blocks.
