Norway looks to play a vertical style of football that relies on quick transitions and heavy pressing, utilizing a 4-4-2 formation. This lineup aims to dominate the central areas while making rapid runs to catch the opposition out of position. By playing with two strikers, the team forces the opposing back line to drop deep, creating space for the midfielders to operate.

In goal, Ø.Nyland acts as the last line of defense to protect the goal. The defensive unit functions as a flat back four where J.Ryerson works as a right back to provide width and cover the flank. D.Wolfe occupies the left back position to overlap and support the attack. In the center of the defense, K.Ajer uses his aerial strength to defend crosses and T.Heggem provides cover to step up and intercept passes. This unit works together to maintain a high line when pressing the ball.

The midfield operates through a double pivot system to control the center of the pitch. S.Berge sits in the defensive midfield role to shield the back four and break up play. Beside him, M.Thorsby works to drive the ball forward and cover large areas of the pitch with his high work rate. Moving into the attacking roles, captain M.Ødegaard plays on the right side of the midfield with his exceptional passing range to create chances. On the left, A.Nusa provides a threat from the wide areas to link the midfield to the front line.

Norway employs two strikers to pressure the opposition defense constantly. E.Haaland operates as the left striker, using his immense strength and pace to run behind defenders and finish chances. A.Sørloth plays as the right striker to hold up the ball and provide a target for crosses. These two forwards press in unison to force mistakes, while the movement between them creates gaps in the defensive block. The attack is built through quick, direct passes that look to break the line of the opponent immediately.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. The front two and the attacking midfielders can squeeze the opponent in their own half. Another strength is the numerical superiority in the center when the double pivot joins the attack. This creates a compact block that makes it difficult for opponents to find space between the lines. The team also uses the width provided by the full backs to create overloads in the wide areas.

This 4-4-2 formation creates a highly direct and physical presence in the final third. It is best suited for games against opponents who play a high line and can be caught on the break.
