Lens Football Formation
Starting Lineup
RISSER (79) · SARR (77) · BAIDOO (77) · GRADIT (75) · UDOL (74) · AGUILAR (71) · THOMASSON (78) · SANGARE (78) · SAINT-MAXIMIN (78) · EDOUARD (75) · THAUVIN (76)A high pressing intent drives the tactical identity of Lens in this 3-4-3 formation. This lineup seeks to dominate the pitch through aggressive ball recovery and quick vertical transitions. The goal is to force turnovers in the opponent half to catch the opposition out of position.
Risser acts as the last line of defense in goal. The back line sits in a three man unit with Baidoo occupying the central position to command the area and win headers. Sarr and Gradit operate as the left and right center backs to cover the spaces behind the wing backs. This trio stays compact to block passing lanes and force opponents wide.
The midfield operates with a central pair to control the middle of the pitch. Sangare and Thomasson work to shield the back three while also looking to break the line with forward passes. This central duo links the defense to the attack by recycling possession and stepping up to press. On the flanks, Udol and Aguilar provide the necessary width to stretch the opposition.
In the final third, Lens employs three attackers to pin back the opposition defense. Saint-Maximin and Thauvin occupy the wide areas as inverted wingers to cut inside and create chances. Edouard leads the line as the lone striker to hold up the ball and provide a central presence. These three forwards press high to prevent the opponent from building play from the back.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. By using the front three and the wing backs, Lens can create immediate pressure in the opposition half. The setup also provides wide overloads when Aguilar and Udol push up to support the wingers. This creates many one on one situations for the attackers to exploit.
This 3-4-3 formation relies on intense pressing and rapid transitions to overwhelm the opponent. It is a setup best suited for matches where Lens can dictate the tempo and force mistakes through high pressure.
