RISSER starts in goal to organize the defensive unit from the back. The back three consists of BAIDOO in the center, with SARR acting as the left center back and ANTONIO taking the right center back role. These defenders are tasked to stay compact and cover the spaces behind the midfield. The wide players in this formation, BERMONT on the left and BARBIER on the right, function as wing backs who must cover the entire flank. They need to push up to support the attack and drop back to form a five man line when the team sits deep to defend.

A central midfield duo provides the engine for the Lens midfield. SANGARE and BULATOVIC occupy the two central spots to control the tempo and provide protection for the back three. SANGARE works to shield the defense and intercept passes, while BULATOVIC helps to drive the ball forward and connect the defense to the attacking line. This central block is designed to press opponents immediately and stop them from turning toward the goal.

The attacking front line uses three players to pressure the opposition defense. FOFANA leads the line as a lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and make runs into the channels. On the wings, SAINT-MAXIMIN and REDZIC act as wide attackers. SAINT-MAXIMIN looks to cut inside and use his dribbling to create chances, while REDZIC provides width and looks to cross the ball into the box. These three forwards must press in coordination to prevent the opponent from building from the back.

This formation offers several tactical advantages when used correctly. The presence of three central defenders allows for numerical superiority against two striker systems, making it easier to win headers and tackle in the box. Furthermore, the wide positioning of BERMONT and BARBIER creates wide overloads that force the opposing wingers to track back. The combination of SAINT-MAXIMIN and REDZIC also allows for quick transitions, as they can isolate defenders in one on one situations during a counter attack.

Lens relies on this aggressive 3-4-3 to overwhelm opponents through width and intense pressing. This lineup is best suited for matches against teams that struggle with high defensive lines or those that fail to track late runs from the midfield.
