High pressing and rapid transitions define the tactical identity for Lens, who deploy a 3-4-3. This lineup aims to win the ball high up the pitch and move quickly toward the goal. The formation works to control the middle of the field while keeping the opposition under constant pressure through vertical runs.
Risser starts in goal to organize the back line and direct his teammates. The defense consists of a three man unit featuring Celik, Ganiou, and Malang Sarr. Ganiou sits in the middle to cover the central space, while Celik and Malang Sarr step up to intercept passes or mark runners in the wide channels. Udol and Abdulhamid act as wing backs, pushing high to provide width and tracking back to help the defensive unit when the team loses possession.
The midfield operates as a double pivot with Sangare and A.Thomasson to control the tempo. Sangare acts as the primary shield, sitting deep to intercept play and break the lines with his passing range. A.Thomasson works to drive forward and connect the defense to the attacking front three. This central duo works alongside the wide players to ensure the team remains compact when sitting deep in a defensive block.
Up front, Lens employs three attackers to stretch the opposition defense. Édouard leads the line as a lone striker, using his strength to hold up the ball and allow others to join the attack. Sima and Thauvin operate as wide attackers, looking to cut inside into the half spaces or cross from the flanks. These three forwards press the opponent's back line immediately to force turnovers in dangerous areas.
One major advantage of this RC Lens lineup is the ability to create wide overloads. When Udol and Abdulhamid push forward, they create extra numbers alongside Sima and Thauvin to overwhelm the opposition wingers and full backs. Additionally, the central pairing of Sangare and A.Thomasson allows the team to press in coordinated waves, making it very difficult for opponents to build play from the back or find space in the middle.
This 3-4-3 formation is built for aggressive, high intensity football. It is most effective against teams that struggle to play through a heavy press or those that defend with a narrow back four and leave space in the wide areas.
