Operating as a double pivot, the midfield consists of de Jong and Pedri in the central spaces. de Jong uses his ability to carry the ball to drive forward and break the line of the opponent press. Pedri acts as the main connection between the defense and the attack, using his passing range and vision to find teammates. These two players must work hard to shield the defense and cover the gaps left by the advancing full backs. They shift together to intercept passes and prevent the opposition from playing through the middle.

Four attackers make up the front line, positioned to attack the box from different angles. Lewandowski serves as the main striker, using his clinical finishing and movement to hold up the ball. Gavi plays as a second striker, using his intense pressing to harass defenders and make runs into the channels. Rashford looks to cut inside from the left flank to create goal threats, while Lamine stays wide on the right to stretch the opposing backline. This lineup makes the attack very difficult to mark.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to isolate wide players in one on one situations. By pushing the wingers high, Barcelona creates wide overloads when Cancelo or Balde overlap. Another strength is the speed of transition, as the four attackers are always ready to sprint forward the moment the ball is won. The team can also use the passing range of Pedri to switch play quickly and catch the opposition out of position.
