NIDAL must cover the space while ISMAËLO stays dominant in the air. ARTHUR and RUBEN act as the full backs to manage the wide areas. ARTHUR can overlap to provide width in the attacking phase, while RUBEN must track back to prevent counter attacks. The defensive unit works to stay compact and step up together to catch attackers offside.

The midfield functions with an attacking ten. ALPHA plays in that advanced role to find pockets of space behind the opposition midfield. AMADOU and ANDRIJA operate in the central roles to control the middle. AMADOU acts as the pivot to shield the defense and intercept passes. ANDRIJA is tasked to drive forward and break the line with vertical passes. This group must work to shift and cover the gaps left by the attacking players.

In the attacking phase, the team uses three forwards. FLORIAN acts as a lone striker to hold up the ball and lead the high press. ABDALLAH and RAYAN play as wide wingers to provide width and stretch the opposition. ABDALLAH can cut inside to create goal scoring chances, whereas RAYAN looks to push wide and cross into the box. These movements are designed to pull the defenders out of position.

One major strength for Lens is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. The front three and ALPHA can force turnovers in dangerous areas. Another advantage is the speed of transition when the ball is recovered. The team can move from a defensive block to an attacking stance very quickly. This allows them to exploit teams that are caught out of position.
