Lens plays with a 3-4-3 formation that focuses on high pressing and quick transitions. This lineup is built to attack the opponent aggressively and use wide areas to stretch the defense. The goal for Lens is to regain possession high up the pitch and move the ball forward with verticality to catch the opposition out of position.

RISSER stays between the posts to start the buildup from the back. The defensive unit operates with a back three consisting of SARR, GRADIT, and GANIOU. SARR and GANIOU act as the wide center backs to cover the spaces left when the wing backs push high, while GRADIT sits centrally to command the line and win aerial duels. This back three provides a solid base to prevent counter attacks while they step up to compress the space.

The midfield functions with two central players and two wide players who act as wing backs. THOMASSON and FULGINI occupy the central areas to control the tempo and break the line with their passing. They work to shield the back three and connect the defense to the front line. UDOL and AGUILAR operate on the flanks, where they must track back to support the defense and provide width during the attack.

In the attacking third, the team utilizes three forwards. SAINT-MAXIMIN operates on the left as an inverted winger, using his dribbling to cut inside and create chances. THAUVIN plays on the right side to provide width and deliver crosses into the box. EDOUARD acts as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and make runs into the channels to pull defenders away from the attackers.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, forcing errors in the opponent half. The wide players UDOL and AGUILAR can create overloads by overlapping the wingers, making it difficult for the opposition to mark everyone. Additionally, the presence of SAINT-MAXIMIN allows for isolating wide players in one on one situations during transitions.

This 3-4-3 formation is a high energy system designed to dominate the pitch through pressure. It is best suited for games where the team wants to overwhelm a defensively minded opponent with speed and width.
