De Jong acts as the carrier who can carry the ball forward to break the line, while Pedri works to find the feet of the striker and play through the lines. They are tasked to win the second ball and prevent the opponent from playing through the middle. When the ball is lost, they must immediately trigger a press to stop the counter.

In the attacking third, the team uses four players to stretch the defence. Raphinha and Lamine occupy the wide areas, with Raphinha often looking to cut inside to find space. Lamine uses his dribbling style to pull wide and isolate defenders. Fermín and Ferrán operate as two forwards in a partnership. Fermín acts as a pressing centre-forward to harass the back line, while Ferrán works to hold up the ball and lay it off for the runners. This formation creates many runs in behind and allows for quick one-two combinations.

There is also a clear ability to hit in behind on the transition due to the sheer number of attackers.
