Bernal acts as the link, helping to recycle possession and provide a layer of protection in front of the defense. This two man unit must be extremely efficient at covering ground to prevent the opposition from bypassing the midfield. They work to win the second ball and quickly find the forwards.

Barcelona utilizes four attackers to pin the opposition back. Gordon and Bernardo Silva occupy the wide areas, with Gordon playing as an inverted winger who cuts inside to create space for overlaps. Bernardo Silva operates on the right, looking to combine in tight spaces and deliver quality into the box. Up front, Olmo and Rashford function as a forward partnership. Olmo often drops deep to link up play between the lines, while Rashford looks to run in behind the defense to exploit space on the transition.

A major strength of this Barcelona formation is the ability to create wide overloads by involving the full backs in the attacking phase. The team also benefits from the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to build from the back.
